Belfast Castle Bus Tour Stop: Views & History

Perched on the slopes of Cave Hill, 400 feet above sea level, sits Belfast Castle. While some bus routes don't go right to the door (they stop at the entrance to the estate), the walk or shuttle up is worth it.

The Views

This is arguably the best vantage point in the city. On a clear day, you can see:

• The entire city of Belfast.
• Belfast Lough.
• Sometimes even the coast of Scotland!

The Castle

Built in the 1860s, the castle is beautiful to wander around.

• The Cat Garden: Legend has it that as long as a white cat lives in the castle, the residents will be happy. Look for the nine hidden cat mosaics and sculptures in the garden!
• Dining: There's a cellar restaurant and a tavern for refreshments.

Cave Hill (Napoleon's Nose)

Wait, is that a giant sleeping? The silhouette of Cave Hill famously resembles a sleeping giant (said to have inspired Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels). If you're feeling energetic, you can hike from the castle grounds, though this might take too much time out of a single-day bus ticket.

Route Note: Check your specific bus map. Some routes make a specific detour to the castle, while others stick to the Crumlin Road. Ensure you're on the right line!
