"If you don't like the weather in Belfast, wait 10 minutes." It's a cliché because it's true.

Surviving the Rain

Belfast gets rain. It is what makes the Emerald Isle green.

  • The Bus Roof: The fronts of most HOHO buses are covered/enclosed on the top deck. If it rains, scurry to the front few rows.
  • Ponchos: Most operators sell cheap rain ponchos. Buy one. It’s better than an umbrella which will turn inside out in the wind on the top deck!
  • Downstairs: The lower deck is heated and has big windows. You won't miss the view, just the wind in your hair.

Best Months

  • May - June: Often the sunniest months with long daylight hours.
  • July - August: Warmest, but busiest.
  • September: A sweet spot of decent weather and fewer crowds.
  • Winter: Buses still run! It’s chilly, but seeing the Christmas lights from the top deck is magical.

What to Wear

Layers are key. T-shirt, sweater, windbreaker. You can peel them off if the sun comes out.
